CIVIC IMPROVEMENTSince the club’s inception, a primary focus has been assisting local organizations with education, funding and hands-on work furthering the protection or enhancement of the environment. Projects include Sandoway House Nature Center, Community Greening, and Delray Beach Historical Society’s Heritage Garden and Children’s Gardens. ConservationThe Conservation Committee educates our members on current conservation issues and promotes respect for natural resources. Participation in The Garden Club of America’s National Affairs and Legislation Conference provides essential information on environmental priorities. GCA Position Papers (gcamerica.org) on issues including clean air, clean water, native plants and conservation. |
GARDEN HISTORY AND DESIGNThe committee fosters an appreciation for America’s gardens through the study of good design practices, photography and research while providing educational programs to members. The club has documented several gardens for the Smithsonian Institution’s Archives of American Gardens that can be viewed in The Garden Club of America collection. The committee seeks to nurture the knowledge and love of gardening, promote useful and valuable plants and protect those at risk. It shares responsible ways to plant, propagate, grow and show specimens at flower shows. View local sites of horticultural interest.
